Praying the Will of God
Praying the will of God is not hard. Jesus told us the will of God. Are we going to pray for it? Or will we stagger at the words of Jesus and pray for less than God’s best?
Luke 11:1-2 NKJV
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
To get results, we have to pray the will of God and Jesus tells us the will of God. God doesn’t have one will for heaven and another for the earth. His desire for us is always the same.
I’ve concluded that God’s will is threefold: good, pleasing and perfect. Heaven on earth is His perfect will and we aren’t told: “that is too high for you.” Instead, we are told, “When you pray, say….”
Jesus is telling us to look at the Father in heaven and see what heaven looks like, then pray for that, because God’s perfect will is done there.
There is no sickness there, or sorrow or pain (Rev 21:4). Sin is no more (Rev 21:27), as is lack. You have removed the curse and it is gone forever (Rev 22:3).
God’s Word tells us what we should pray. Do not be afraid to pray for God’s best; come to God boldly (Heb 4:16). God is good, every good thing comes from Him (James 1:17) and He has good things prepared for you (1 Co 2:9) but you have to ask in prayer, believing you will receive (Mark 11:24).
Pray God’s best!
Lord God, Father, You are good and You have only the best in mind for us. We come to You and we ask that You do what You desire for us. According to your loving kindness, answer us. Display Your goodness before men (Ex 33:19), for it is Your kindness that leads men to repentance (Rom 2:4) and we know You desire all men to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4). Have mercy on us, forgive us and do not hold Your anger against us forever for the sake of Your goodness (Ps 25:7-8). Teach us Your ways (Ps 25:4-5, 86:11) because You are the One who saves us and our hope is in You.
In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
